Today, I am thrilled to share a major milestone with all of you—the sharing of the Carbon Pricing Principles! This initiative marks a powerful moment for our Sustainable Procurement Pledge (SPP) community as we step boldly into 2025, aligned with our mission to make sustainable procurement the default. Aligned with being bold dreamers believing that we can and should be the drivers of positive change for the whole united global community.
What makes this particularly meaningful is that it represents the second initiative ideated by the participants of our Champions Program (the first being THE GUIDE). The Champion Program is a dynamic hub for passionate procurement professionals, CPO’s and their teams to come together to collaborate, innovate, and lead the charge for more sustainable future. It’s a space where vision unites a community to drive action, and today’s achievement is a testament to that synergy.
And the result of this second initiative is impressive: The Carbon Pricing Principles aim to embed carbon pricing directly into commercial evaluation criteria for tenders and supplier selection, providing a clear, actionable framework that incentivizes suppliers to measure and reduce their carbon emissions. Ambassadors from diverse industries and regions pooled their expertise, ideas and energy to craft this set of principles that resonate across the global procurement landscape.
This collaborative action has been inspiring, which feels even more poignant and important to me at this moment in time. Behind the scenes, we saw inspiring leadership, and openness to get it done together. Today, we celebrate not just the principles themselves but also the collaborative spirit that brought them to life.
And while this is a milestone, it is also just the beginning. We now embark on the implementation of principles to support their continued development. I know many of you have already expressed interest or commitment to get involved in this. We will continue to support you on this journey as you share your learnings and shape the evolution of these principles to improve relevance to drive for impact.
We need to be bold and start. It is not about perfection. It is about getting it done. That’s the spirit that allows SPP to activate our community in initiatives such as this one. I want to thank our amazing co-founders, Thomas and Bertrand, for continuing to encourage this approach and spirit. I want to thank Oliver Hurrey for driving the energy and challenging me and the SPP team to be bold. I want to thank Chris Low for his passion, support and unshattered believe in this initiative over the past months. And want to recognize the critical role of the many hundreds of Ambassadors who joined the workshops where we all threw notes on a virtual brainstorming board. This is how it started; this is how it will continue. With you, for you.
Our Evolving Platform
As we launch 2025—the first year of our five years of impact to 2030—we recognize the urgency to do more, faster, and with greater impact. To support this journey, the SPP website is also evolving to make it easier for you to navigate our initiatives. We want to ensure that more of you are aware, engaged, and getting involved on this shared journey.
So.. To the unsung heroes—YOU, the procurement professionals —this is your moment. United, we are changing tomorrow. For people and planet. Together, we procure the future. The Carbon Pricing Principles are a tool, a roadmap, and a rallying cry. But their impact will depend on how we bring them to life.
I invite you to join us in this journey: Sign the pledge. Activate your power. Together, we can turn aspirations into actions and actions into impact.
Let’s procure tomorrow, today.
