SPP Appoints Second Advisory Council Member: Welcome Ranajoy Basu!

We have some exciting news! We are delighted to welcome Ranajoy Basu, partner at McDermott Will & Emery, to the SPP Advisory Council. Ranajoy takes on the role of Strategic Advisor: Governance & Legal. As one of the world’s leading lawyers in cross-border social impact finance structures, he will advise and support the SPP team to achieve our strategic goals as he has done for over a year already.

“I am delighted and honored to become a member of the Sustainable Procurement Pledge Advisory Council and to continue to collaborate with the fantastic Global Team delivering SPP’s mission and vision. At a time when sustainable supply chain and procurement is top of the agenda of corporates and financial institutions around the world, it is very exciting to work with SPP across industry sectors to help catalyze meaningful impact and positive change, in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

Ranajoy is head of McDermott Will & Emery’s Securitisation & Structured Finance and Impact Finance practices in London, and co-head of the firm’s global ESG, Impact & Sustainability Group. He is recognized as an industry leader in emerging markets transactions and cross-border social impact finance structures, including social and development impact bonds, renewable energy, and “green” structured finance transactions. Ranajoy was recently named Environmental/ Sustainability: Private Practice Champion of the Year at the Legal 500 UK ESG Awards 2024, and was ranked individually in the Global-wide: Environmental, Social & Governance Risk (Law Firms) category in Chambers Crisis & Risk Management 2024. His notable work includes advising on the Educate Girls Social Impact Bond in India, the ‘Utkrisht’ development impact bond, aimed at reducing maternal and infant mortality in Rajasthan, India, and the groundbreaking International Finance Facility for Education, the largest funding mechanism targeting education programs globally. More recently, Ranajoy advised the UNHCR on the development and launch of the Global Islamic Fund for Refugees (GIFR), a partnership between UNHCR and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), and UNICEF on the UNICEF Education Outcomes Fund.

Ranajoy joins Nancy Gillis, Strategic Advisor: Content Curation, as the second appointed member of the Advisory Council. The Advisory Council, incorporated in February 2024, will consist of up to eight recognized leaders in their fields providing strategic guidance and an invaluable external perspective in key areas, including Funding, Governance & Legal, Thematic Curation, Technology, Sustainability/Transformation, Academia, Government, and Multilaterals/NGOs, to the SPP management.

SPP has gone through a transformational year to position our community to tackle our big, sometimes crazy, goal of making sustainable procurement the default. Ranajoy has brought his expertise, his team, and his wonderful joy to our important work for over a year already to ensure we are fit for purpose. Ranajoy sees the potential impact we could all have if we reach our ambitions and we are so thrilled he has decided to dedicate himself to support us even more!

Please join me in officially welcoming Ranajoy to our community!

Yours truly,
Mélissa de Roquebrune
Executive Director
