Sustainable Procurement Wheel

About

The Sustainable Procurement Wheel was developed by the Embedding Project – a global public benefit research project help companies and public authorities to embed social and environmental factors across their operations and decision makings – and SPP Ambassadors in 2002-24 responding to demands from the procurement community and organizations committed to embed sustainable practices.

Goal

The goal was to support procurement professionals in different organizations at different stages in their procurement journey with a pathway and practical resources for the implementation of sustainable practices.

Achievements

The Embedding Project team spoke with hundreds of CPOs, category managers, and other procurement professionals, reviewed over 1,000 resources, and partnered with SPP Ambassadors in eight focus group sessions to identify practices, examples, and resources. The result of this research-driven process is the Sustainable Procurement Wheel for procurers, by procurers, that curates pathways, advice, real live company examples, tools and further resources along the procurement lifecycle while adding broader practices supporting change to allow easy uptake by procurement professionals. Part of the resources are eight case studies from SPP’s The Guide that highlight success factors, challenges and practical insights.
The Sustainable Procurement Wheel is an openly accessible resource for all procurement professionals to support them to do the next step in their sustainable procurement journey.
