Meet the SPP Advisors: The Power of People in Action

At SPP, we’ve always believed one thing: change starts with people. With me, with you, with us.

From the very beginning, SPP has been powered by passionate volunteers who share a simple conviction: that procurement can be a powerful change make. For four years, everything we achieved at SPP was volunteer led. Today, while we have a small core team managing and driving this not for profit, one truth remains unchanged: SPP exists because of the individuals who step forward to make it happen.

One of the ways this community spirit comes to life is through our SPP Advisors. Now, let’s be clear: being an Advisor at SPP isn’t about a fancy title or a bureaucratic, process-heavy role, it’s quite the opposite. Our Advisors are the people behind the curtain, the ones who say “I can help with that,” and then roll up their sleeves to make it happen. They bring their expertise, networks, time, and creativity to help us solve challenges, keep us sharp, and push us forward.

Sometimes that means offering legal advice, sometimes it’s building tech tools, sometimes it’s asking us the tough questions we need to hear and sometimes, it’s simply and powerfully being a sounding board as we shape something new or try something scary. What unites our Advisors is that they are doers, not just talkers. They make the Pledge REAL, acting with integrity, sharing knowledge, collaborating radically, empowering others, and demanding transparency. They live these principles.

Advisors are an important piece of the puzzle and they sit alongside our amazing Chapter Co-Chairs and their core teams, our energetic interns, our generous supporters and donors, and every single one of you who has joined this community and found your own way to live the Pledge.

This mix, the collective effort of so many different people is our magic sauce. It’s what makes SPP not just another organization, but a living, breathing community.

My hope is that you take a moment to get to know someone in the SPP community, because there are so many truly special people sitting at this table and the SPP Advisors are a great place to start.

Take Ranajoy Basu, who has long been a steady legal compass, supporting SPP with advice, expertise, and even his office space for some of our biggest and most memorable in-person events. Or Henrik Larsen, who brings experience and sharp questioning to make sure we stay connected while driving the SPP Champions Program and keeping our finger on the pulse of procurement. From the very beginning, Miguel Cossio has guided us with thoughtful advice on whether we are truly helping the community and focusing on the right topics. Then there’s Miguel Brand, the secret force behind our “SPP.earth” website, and Emily Harburg, who is bringing in smart technology to help us move with speed and scale. And let’s not forget Lewis Howard, who was an SPP volunteer before there even was an SPP, helping us stay ahead trends and practices in sustainable procurement.

At its core, SPP is by procurement, for procurement. But the truth is, we don’t operate in a bubble. Procurement is part of a much bigger, more complex global system.

Our SPP Advisors together with all of you help us stay connected, grounded, and collaborative within that bigger picture.

So, to our Advisors, and to every single one of you reading this: thank you. You are what makes SPP special. You’re living proof that when individuals bring their strengths together, we can build something far bigger than ourselves.
