New York, September 27, 2024
The Sustainable Procurement Pledge (SPP) is making it happen. Again, this year we have convened the procurement community to collaborate on driving change, impactful learning, collaboration, and exchange. Hosting two key events in New York during NYC Climate Week has highlighted procurement on the sustainability agenda; In line with our goal to create safe spaces for peer-to-peer discussions to propel collaborative solutions that drive the wider adoption of sustainable sourcing practices at speed.
SPP Champions Program members, representing procurement leadership and their teams, came together in New York during NYC Climate Week on September 23 building on the momentum of last year’s meeting in Berlin. SPP Champions are driving a sustainable transition within the procurement function by collaborating on key initiatives, such as carbon reduction. We aim to provide best-practice knowledge and access to tools that equip and inspire broader cross-sector action.
As we get ready for the next five years to 2030, we are thrilled to announce that more CPO’s and their teams have joined the Champions Program in our mission. Joining the already 28 companies supporting SPP – today welcome DP World, DEKRA, Haleon, Novonesis.
“We are committed to making procurement a driving force for sustainable change. Events like these highlights the importance of collaboration and shared knowledge in achieving our ambitious goals,” added Elske Messemaker-Klein, VP Procurement Europe, DP World.
“We are delighted to join and contribute to the SPP Champions Program” adds John Everett, CPO & VP of Global Procurement, Novonesis, “it aligns with the Novonesis sustainability ambition to positively impact people and the planet via our Biosolutions”.
“With Haleon Procurement having oversight of 70% of the company’s carbon emissions, it is crucial that we are actively taking the lead in this space. We have launched a climate pledge with our top emitting suppliers inspired by best practices from the SPP and we have implemented carbon pricing to incentivize our suppliers to act. In the spirit of the SPP we have shared our methodology with all other interested companies, and it has been refined and developed to become part of the SPP toolkit” added Chris Low, Head of Haleon Procurement Sustainability.”
Reflection on the ‘Procure Innovation Dialogues’
The Procure Innovation Dialogues, co-hosted by the Sustainable Procurement Pledge and the First Movers Coalition of the World Economic Forum, was held on 20 September and brought together a community of influential Chief Procurement Officers (CPOs) and their C-suite partners. The 2024 Dialogues focused on identifying concrete approaches to sustainability improvements and fostering strong partnerships between CPOs and their senior supply chain partners. This event reinforced the critical role of high-level cooperation in transforming the procurement function, both within organizations and across supply chains.
Celebrating the 5th Anniversary of SPP
The timing and location, were of notable importance for SPP Co-Founders, Thomas Udesen and Bertrand Conquéret, given that the 2019 NYC Climate Week, marked the birth of SPP. Now celebrating it’s 5th anniversary, SPP looks with more conviction than ever, towards spearheading advances in support of the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“As we celebrate 5 years of SPP, we reflect on the remarkable growth, now with the momentum of over 16,000 Ambassadors worldwide. We extend our gratitude to the 17 chapters for their expanding number of knowledge-exchange events. With only 5 years until 2030, we have so much to do.” said Bertrand Conquéret, SPP Co-Founder & CPO of Henkel, “Thomas and myself are in awe of the growing efforts from Ambassadors around the globe, and we know the change will only happen because of you, procurement professionals worldwide acting together for a better future.”
SPP wants to eliminate duplication to drive change at speed and we are achieving this through exciting new partnerships. During the upcoming Global Ambassador meeting on October 17, key new initiatives with Gartner and The Economist Impact will be brought to you. We need your input so be sure to attend.
